Marist Auckland Waterpolo

SILVERBACKS CHALLENGE SENIOR A'S

14.05.2007 They turned up in anticipation of a great match. Stalwart Kurt Goldsworthy was an excited as a little boy about to see the monkeys for the first time. The crowd - well it didn’t realise such a game was about to happen - but happen it did. Marist Blue Seniors hit the water for the first time this season taking on the youngies of the Marist Red.

Some one forgot to tell the Blue team that these days there is only 13 in the team - 14 of these eager beavers arrived... albeit the great patu Zane and his fellow old playmate Paul Swindells (photo) arriving a little after the first whistle. Onlookers that included a Blue Devil spy or two ( no doubt scouting for some talent - but may have been confused by the blue in the name Marist Blue) witnessed the old magic from Mr Goldsworthy as he pinged a goal at a rather oblique angle for the Blue team.

The Red team slammed in 6 goals in the first quarter but couldnt keep up the pace having to capitulate to the old  timers in the next three quarters .... the Red team won but not without a fight - 15-6 - in the match of the round in the Northern Senior Mens Water Polo League. Next match for the Blue team will be against Northsport at Millennium Saturday next week 5pm provided they can get pass the Punt and Pass - or is that reserved for the drive home.!!
