The Marist Magic had a mixed set of opening games to their
2009 National League season at Sacred Heart yesterday. The Magic Women had a
shock loss to League newcomers Waitakere going down 6-5. The Magic women drew
within one goal of the Waitakere team in the third quarter after being down 1-5
at one stage, but couldn’t find the back if the net to equalise. All credit to
the Waitakere women as they played a smart game. The Marist Magic Men had a
convincing opening win against the Waitakere Blue Devils winning 20-12 in a
high scoring encounter which was played at a frenetic pace. Cameron Lowther
scored 9 goals whilst Marist recruit Ben Pye netted 3 in his first appearance.
