Congratulations to the Marist Black Team who went to the U14 Nationals Division Two tournament in Hamilton in December 2009. These young men finished third, bringing home Bronze for the Club.

Two games were played on day one, first was Rotorua which we won 8-1. James Beresford was awarded Player of the Game. In the evening we played Palmerston North Boys High School, another good win with a score of 9-4, this time it was Max Hunt's turn for Player of the Game.

After a good night's sleep (yeah right) it with time to play North Harbour C. This was always going to be a very tough game! First quarter saw the score at 1-2 to North Harbour, second quarter it was 2-3, still to North Harbour. At the end of the third quarter North Harbour was still ahead at 3-5! A good talking to by Coach Kieran saw the boys pull out a win with two goals scored in the last quarter making it a draw 5-5.

Friday saw us playing Hutt in the morning which was won convincingly with a score of 15-2. The semi-final in the evening was against Palmerston North Boys High School. Another hard game, but the boys put their hearts and souls into it! The score was 0-3 in the first quarter, 2-3 in the second, 4-5 in the third quarter and this was how it ended up 4-5 to Palmerston North . . . if only we had another quarter!

The play off for third place was against Rotorua with the final score being 9-6. James Beresford was presented with the Outstanding Player Award. Well done James!

Coach Kieran Hattie managed to keep these boys focused and keen to win for the entire tournament. No junk food, Red Bulls, Demons or Coke were allowed and the boys respected that. Kieran has a new nick-name 'King of the Time-Outs' (as given by the parents who were part of the cheering squad)! He called these at crucial points in the game, and apparently he wasn't always telling the boys what to do! Very special thanks to Lisa Chandler and Sally Herbert for their fantastic parent support - “ couldn't have done it without you girls.... Wendy Deadman Manager

2008 U14 Development Tournament - Rotorua

01.09.2008 Hey we got bronze . Score 5 to 2 “ –in the Minor semi-final against Rotorua. - Kyle Hattie, Coach

SEMI FINAL SHOCK LOSS FOR MARIST

18.12.2006 Marist Red had a head start in the round robin drowning Southland 21 – 3 and NorthSport B 18 – 2. Tauranga was no match either (12 – 1). After another convincing win over Harbour City (16 – 7) NorthSport A put on the expected challenge in the final game of the preliminary round. After being up 5 – 2 in the second quarter NorthSport came back to even the score at 6 – 6 by the final whistle. The draw was enough for Marist to secure the semi final berth against Maranui. The team from Wellington forced the game into overtime with two goals in the last 20 seconds of the final quarter of a breathtaking clash. After overtime did not provide a winner a penalty shoot out had to decide and it took 7 shooters until the game was decided. Marist second miss meant the end to their championship campaign. The team struggled from that dramatic loss and failed to recover in time to claim the bronze leaving the medals to NorthSport.
